Owning a new puppy can be very rewarding and great fun but can also be a very challenging time! Even if you have owned a dog previously, you may soon find that every dog is different and may not behave as you expected (or as your previous dog did). For first time puppy owners, the challenges can be even more worrying as everything will feel very new to you (plus you’ll probably be getting a hundred different views thrown at you from all directions by well-meaning friends and relatives – everyone is an expert at times like these).
A Puppy Consultation visit from Happy Tails Training is carried out in your own home and can even be done before your new puppy is fully vaccinated (the earlier you start, the better). Nicky will visit you and your puppy at a pre-arranged time and will be able to answer any questions you may have about a range of areas that owners can get concerned about. Some of the most common concerns are:
|Socialisation||“My dog seems to be scared of everything, how can I train it not to be?” Or “How can I ensure my dog doesn’t end up fearful of everything?”|
|Training||“How old does my dog need to be before I can start its training?”|
|Healthy eating||“How can I choose the best food for my dog – there is so much choice?”|
|Toilet training||“How should I teach my dog to go outside for the toilet?” Or “My dog won’t go to the toilet when we go for a walk, what is wrong with it?”|
|Play-biting||“My puppy is constantly biting me and my family members and it really hurts. How can I stop it?”|
|Separation Anxiety||“How can I teach my puppy to be left on it’s own? If I leave the house it cries and barks continuously or starts to destroy everything.”|
